Punjab Social Welfare Minister Rai Munsab Ali has said his government and Germany are jointly implementing a development project to support the current reforms to reduce discrimination and violence against women and girls in Punjab.
In his speech at the launching ceremony of "guidelines for Dar-ul-Amans", he said it was also the duty of civil society and media to play its role and create awareness among the people about the women's rights because it was not only the government's duty. He also thanked all departments playing their role in making these guidelines, especially for the police department.
In her speech, Yasmeen Hamadan of the German technical co-operation said their purpose was to implement the new guidelines to all shelter homes. She said, "Our religion also emphasises on giving respect and rights to women."
She also lauded the role of French non-government organisation Medicins du Monde, saying their organisation always came up with fresh ideas to solve the problems. Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh and Iqbal Tariq of the Social Welfare Department said, "Our co-operation with the German Technical Co-operation GTZ will be stronger with the passage of time and we need their technical support more than their financial support."
