Opposition parties' latest alliance, All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has announced that their parliamentarians will quit their seats in the assemblies the moment nomination papers of General Pervez Musharraf for contesting the presidential election are accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The announcement has not come as a big surprise for many around. The Opposition parties have earlier been making similar "dramatic" announcements from the platforms of MMA and the ARD. But they postponed the decision to resign en masse at the last moment on one pretext or the other.
This is the latest gimmick they are trying to play against President General Pervez Musharraf and in the process committing a grand betrayal to their electorate, provided they resign from the assemblies this time at least.
Instead of coming out and fielding their candidate for the forthcoming presidential election to contest against General Pervez Musharraf, they are finding a lame excuse to quit the political arena leaving it open for the lone candidate ie General Pervez Musharraf. But the million dollars question is: will they honour their announcement and resign from the National and Provincial Assemblies this time at least?
