Presidential election: government to ensure peaceful environment, says Shaukat

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said the government would take all necessary measures to ensure peaceful environment before and during the presidential election.
Talking to a group of parliamentarians who called on him here, he said this national obligation has to be conducted in accordance with the constitutional provisions, which also entrust the responsibility upon the government to maintain a conducive atmosphere.
The Prime Minster said the law enforcing agencies have been instructed to adopt appropriate measures to protect the life and property of the people and no one be allowed to violate law of the land.
He said the government believes in dialogue with all political forces to achieve consensus on all issues of national importance and it will lead to further strengthening democratic process in the country. He said negative politics have been rejected by the masses and all political parties should uphold national interest for the cause of the homeland.
The Prime Minister said the re-election of President Pervez Musharraf will ensure continued progress and prosperity of the country and all those who want to promote national interest will support him during the upcoming presidential election. He said presidential election followed by general election will be major events in the country's political history.
The Prime Minister said PML and coalition partners are well poised for the next general elections and it is responsibility of PML workers to take party's message of good governance, transparency and improvement in the standard of living effectively to the people.
The parliamentarians updated the Prime Minister that PML is well-geared for elections on the basis of performance and people would favour them to ensure continuity of development and prosperity. They said people are appreciative of the development and prosperity as their living standard has improved over the last five years.
They also discussed development projects in their areas and said the timely completion of the ongoing schemes will bring further improvement in the socio-economic uplift of the people. The meeting was attended by MNAs Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Sardar Bahadur Ahmad Khan and Senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry.
