The Supreme Court will announce its reserved judgement today in case of manhandling of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on 13th March 2007 by police. A three-member bench of the court comprising Justice Rana Bhagwandas, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk had heard the case of manhandling of Justice lftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by police.
The three-member bench had framed the charge on the following persons: "Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmad, Inspector General of Police, Islamabad, Captain Zafar Iqbal (Retd), Senior Superintendent of Police, Islamabad, Khalid Pervaiz, Chief Commissioner, Islamabad, Muhammad Ali, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Jamil Hashmi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Islamabad, Rukhsar Mehdi, Station House Officer, Police Station Secretariat, Islamabad and Siraj Ahmad, Assistant Sub-Inspector/Security Guard to Inspector General of Police, Islamabad."
The court framed the following charge on the above mentioned persons: "That you on 13.3.2007 in the afternoon by grossly manhandling Honourable Justice Iflikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Chief Justice of Pakistan and by acts of omission and commission brought into disrepute and ridicule the authority of this Court and grossly interfered with the course of administration of justice by acting in a highly contemptuous and disrespectful manner to the Honourable Justice and, thereby committed contempt of this Court, read with Article 204 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973.
And we call upon you to explain as to why you may not be punished for the above offence." All the above mentioned persons had tendered their unconditional apology and placed themselves at the mercy of the court.
