The National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries, Production and Special Initiatives here on Friday urged the government to make arrangement for import of one million tones of wheat urgently to overcome the wheat-flour crisis in the country.
The meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries, Production and Special Initiatives was held here today in Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Malik Niaz Ahmad Jakhar, which discussed the problems faced by the public due to Atta crises and role of Utility Stores Corporation in the country.
It also directed the Managing Director Utility Stores Corporation to provide Atta at Franchise Stores as soon as possible, and also ensure availability of the Atta at Utility Stores all over the country. The Committee showed great concern on the increase of Atta prices in the open market as well as the scarcity of Atta at Utility Stores across the country.

The Committee also directed the MD, USC to make the arrangements of Mobile Unit, to provide Atta and other commodities to the public all over the country.
The committee further directed the MD, USC to open the Utility Stores at Union Council level as soon as possible, so that the public could benefit.
The Committee recommended that bans should be imposed on the export of rice and wheat, keeping in view the current scenario of shortage of rice production due to floods in Sindh and virus to rice in Sindh and Punjab. The Committee further urged the government to make arrangement of import of one million tons wheat urgently to overcome the crises of Aatta in the country.
Besides the Chairman, following MNAs, Pir Mohammad Aslam Bodala, Mrs Riffat Javed Kahlon, Saeed Ahmad Chaudhary, Malik Mohammad Saifullah Khan Tiwana, Dr Naseem Gul Afridi, Sher Mohammad Baloach, Asadullah Bhutto, Azhar Ahmed, Mohammad Parvez Qureshi and Secretary, M/O Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, MD, USC and other participants also attended the meeting.
