The Federal Government did not take the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock into confidence before taking the decision to import one million tons wheat as more than 3.5 million tons wheat is lying in the godowns of the hoarders, and Passco also has sufficient stock, Minfal sources said.
They that there was no shortage of wheat in the country. However, on the recommendations of Minfal, the government had decided to import 100,000 tons of urea from Saudi Arabia under a financial facility.
"We have asked the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to avail of part of the Saudi financial facility of $133 million for importing 100,000 tons urea fertiliser to meet the expected shortage in the coming Rabi season," an official said here on Friday.
