The Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz has warned that no one will be allowed to prevent the voters from polling in the October 6 Presidential election and the government would ensure a smooth process to effected on the day.
He was addressing a press conference on Friday at the PM House, soon after the petition to bar the president from contesting the polls was dismissed by the Supreme Court. Aziz said, "stopping the voters from casting their votes in the presidential election will be against the democratic process," and warned the opposition not to create a law and order situation in the country.
"No one would be allowed to create hurdles in the election process," Aziz said adding that the government has made elaborate arrangements to hold a free, fair and transparent election.
The PM further said, the government holds full respect for the court of law and Supreme Court judgements as it was the third pillar of the State. He invited political parties for consulting on issues concerning the country. Talking about the PML and its coalition parties Aziz said that the party enjoys sufficient majority to re-elect President General Pervez Musharraf in the October 6 polls.
Further, he recalled the history that it was for the first time that a parliament was completing its term, which is a healthy sign of promoting democracy in the country.
Replying to a question regarding Benazir Bhhutto's statement about givin physical access of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Prime Minister said Pakistan has a clear stance on the matter and the government cannot allow any foreign institution to conduct investigation of the nuclear scientist.
