Presidential election: plea seeks stay order

A senior lawyer Dr Farooq Hasan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court for a stay of the 6th October presidential polls. In the petition the Chief Election Commissioner for accepting nomination papers of General Pervez Musharraf and President Musharraf for contesting the election as Chief of Army Staff have been made respondents.
The petitioner contended that Article 63 of the Constitution in which disqualification of candidates for the Office of the President, inter alia, are outlined has not been applied in casee of General Pervez Musharraf. He also listed several other reasons for staying the elections.
