KCCI for stoppage of processions in Saddar area

03 Oct, 2007

Members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have suggested that the processions should not be allowed to enter the Saddar area, because they cause gridlock in the area and lead to disturb immensely all business activities.
According to a report, this suggestion was made during a meeting Law and Order sub-committee held recently. They noted that number of several foreign delegates visit KCCI and the traffic on Aiwan-e-Tijarat-o-Sanat comes from Munir Centre, adjacent to the chamber and goes to the Hasrat Mohani Road, causing traffic jam on the road.
They suggested that a letter to be addressed to the Home Department to allow the processions to pass through Masjid-e-Khizra towards the Press Club rather than allowing to enter Saddar, main shopping markets.
They also proposed that the traffic problems could be minimise if only commercial vehicles are allowed to ply on M A Jinnah Road and time for private cars is fixed. They said that if the direction of the traffic flow was changed ie traffic might be allowed to come from Hasrat Mohani Road and go to the main road the problem of traffic jam would be controlled to a greater extent.
