Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Secretary General Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Tuesday said that government should review its decision of holding presidential elections after resignations tendered by a significant number of the opposition members from assemblies.
He said this while talking to journalists after presenting resignations of the APDM MNAs to the Speaker National Assembly at the speaker chamber. Maulana said that after resignation of such a large number of members from Parliament, the government has left with no justification of holding presidential election amid strong reservations of the masses.
As many as 86 members of National Assembly belonging to All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and some dissidents of ruling League tendered their collective resignations to the National Assembly Speaker. APDM also announced to observe October 6 as 'black day' the day when presidential election would be held in the National and Provincial assemblies.
Maulana said that NWFP assembly could not be dissolved because of submission of the 'No Confidence Motion' against the Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani adding that APDM would also bring a resolution in the provincial assembly to express confidence in the Chief Minister in a bid to annul the opposition's motion.
However, he said that APDM leadership would consult legal and constitutional experts in this regard. Justifying for belated move to dissolve the NWFP assembly, he said that due to an unclear political scene, he had to take time from the APDM leadership as the petition against Musharraf was pending in the court. He alleged that due to illogical foreign policy of General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan has been isolated in the world, which needed to be reviewed.
He said that APDM would kick a massive movement against government from October 6. On the occasion, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Chief of Pakhunkhwa Milli Awami Party said that it's right time for the government to resign and set up a caretaker government to hold free, fair and transparent elections.
Prior to the general elections, he said, a round table conference of all the political parties should be convened to evolve an effective future line of action in a bid to save the country from what he called present 'state of turmoil'.
He maintained that all the federating units should be given equal rights for strengthening the federation. "This is the only way to go ahead, if we failed to do so, all of us would be guilty of damaging the country", he concluded.
Iqbal Zafar Jhgra, Secretary General, Pakistan Muslim League -N said that after the resignations of 86 members from National Assembly, the government should stop holding presidential election. "Opposition will launch a decisive movement against the government if it decided to hold presidential elections despite the resignations", he maintained.
