Pakistani cricket vice captain Salman Butt was admitted to hospital Tuesday with stomach pains on the second day of the first Test against South Africa, officials said. "Butt had severe pain in his stomach and we took him to the hospital at around 3:00 am," Pakistan team manager Talat Ali told reporters, adding that doctors thought he had gastro-enteritis.
Butt had fielded on the opening day of the Test on Monday. Substitute Yasir Hameed took the field on the second day on which South Africa resumed at 294-3. The 22-year-old Butt, a left-handed batsman, has played 14 Tests and 36 one-day internationals for Pakistan.
