Proposed NRO termed mere farce

05 Oct, 2007

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary Finance Mohammad Pervaiz Malik has said the proposed national reconciliation ordinance is mere farce as it is aimed at keeping the PPP away from the resignations ahead of presidential poll.
Talking to PML-N workers here on Thursday, Malik said what sort of reconciliation ordinance would be which do not include reconciliation with Nawaz Sharif and other democratic forces who believe in restoration of 1973 constitution.
He said it is a time of trial for politicians and the presidential election will determine the true opposition and draw a line between those who rely on foreign persons and dictators and those who believe in the supremacy of law, constitution and the people.
He said Opposition's en masse resignations would question the legitimacy of presidential poll and its moral and legal justification. Even the parliamentarians from the ruling alliance have tendered resignations while more resignations are likely to come within the next 48 hours. Some parliamentarians will stay away from the polls, he added.
