Traders reject APDM strike call

07 Oct, 2007

City traders on Saturday rejected the strike call given by All Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) against the presidential election, and kept their businesses open throughout the day. All big and small markets and business centers in the provincial capital remained open as usual.
However, customers' turnout was comparatively thin as majority of the people opted to stay at homes enjoying the local holiday declared by the Punjab government in view of the presidential election.
A survey conducted by Business Recorder showed that shopping centers at Mall Road, Fortress Stadium, Shah Alam market, electronic markets of Hall Road and Abid Market, Icharra, Allama Iqbal Town, Township and other areas remained open.
Currency and commodity markets and paper market including Urdu Bazaar also did not respond to the APDM strike call. It may be mentioned that the representatives of Qaumi Tajir Itehad (QTI) had already announced to distance from the APDM strike call.
