Altaf stresses harmony

08 Oct, 2007

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief, Altaf Hussain on Sunday appealed to the political and religious parties of the country and the media to work for creating harmony and solidarity among the nation instead of dividing them into segments.
He was addressing telephonically from London at the MQM's welfare wing Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation's annual programme of distributing cash and goods among the deserving people ahead of the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, said a statement received here. People from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
Altaf Hussain said some discriminatory elements are once again at work to make hatred and discrimination the very basis of politics. "Anyone watching the debates, discussions and analysis being aired on TV channels could see that hatred filled statements are being made," he pointed out adding "this indicates that some elements are trying their best to change the direction of politics of the country towards ethnicity and hatred which could only result in harming the interest of the country."
