India stands to lose, against Pakistan, in international market for Basmati rice, if definition and scope of the premium grain is expanded to include evolved varieties, Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) Chairman K S Money said on Monday.
"Any dilution in definition (of Basmati Rice) is not in commercial interest of India," he said.
He said that if the definition is changed, Pakistan would get more benefits as it has more evolved varieties, while India can encash upon its traditional varieties, peddling on their purity and authenticity. "While changing definition, we should look at how it will affect our market," he added.
