At least 20 people were injured on Tuesday when a powerful explosive planted in a water-cooler went off. The blast occurred in a market of CD shops in the busy Nishterabad area of Peshawar. According to senior police officials the explosion was caused by a four-kilogram explosive attached to a time device. The injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment.
The shopkeepers condemned the bomb blast and termed it as a government failure in providing protection to the business community. Since the beginning of the current year CD shop owners and barbers have been threatened with the closure of their outlets. Due to the threats hurled by the unknown extremist element, people running video and CD shops have shifted to other business in the province.
In another incident, a market housing 12 CD shops in Batkhela, district headquarters of Malakand Agency, was blown up. In Billi Tang, a native town of Kohat, a police vehicle was destroyed after hitting a road-side explosive. The incident resulted in rendering four police personnel injured. It is worth mentioning here that a CD market in the Billi Tang town of district Kohat had already been damaged due to a bomb blast. The shopkeepers of the market have changed their businesses. Similar attacks on such shops in other districts of the province like D.I. Khan, Tank, and Swat were also rampant.
