Former Punjab governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar on Tuesday formally announced to part his ways with Benazir Bhutto and said that he would announce his future political programme after Eid in consultation with the people of Southern Punjab.
He told reporters at a news conference here on Tuesday that Benazir Bhutto deviated from the programme of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto by striking a deal with a dictator, Pervez Musharraf, therefore, he cannot work anymore under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto.
When asked about PPP leaders, including Naseerullah Baber, who left the party as well as politics after Musharraf-BB deal, Khar said he would not retire from politics till the restoration of true democracy in the country.
Khar also said that Benazir Bhutto would not be able to provide any cushion to Pervez Musharraf rather real crisis of Musharraf would start after return of Benazir to the country. She (Benazir) would be able to extend any help to Musharraf in the internal or external matters.
Criticising Pervez Musharraf, he said that he (Musharraf) is working on an agenda to eliminate the political leadership and workers, which will weaken the federation. He was of the view that Pervez Musharraf would not last anymore and his defeat is written on the wall, saying that Benazir Bhutto is coming back to Pakistan as a 'slave' instead of a ruler.
To a question about terrorism, he said the menace of terrorism could be eradicated from the country with the force of people, which is only possible through true democracy in the country. To another query, he said: "Had Nawaz Sharif in the country, the PML-Q would have been abolished."
Khar said he sees no role of Pervez Musharraf in future. He also criticised the promulgation of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and said it would create bloodshed in the country. He said that Nawaz Sharif is soon coming back to the country and he might join the PML-N.
Khar also said there is no room of committing blunder in politics. However, any political leader who commits a mistake can rectify the same by begging pardon from the nation. He said that Benazir would not be able to render any service to the public in the presence of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and MQM leaders.
