PPP leaders Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Awan, Malik Ahmed Hussain Dehari, Khalid Hanif Lodhi and Khurshid Ahmed on Tuesday rebuffed an overt threat of a suicide attack on Ms Bhutto by Baitullah Mehsud, the Taliban commander and said.
The militants were tarnishing the image of Islam by spilling the blood of the innocent in the name of Islam, adding that such dastardly acts would only put them to shame as Islam forbade bloodshed.
The PPP called upon all the Muslims all over the world to stand united to stamp out militancy and extremism. They said the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stressed the need for acquiring knowledge and using discretion. "Benazir Bhutto is a great Muslim who projected a positive image of Islam across the globe when she was elected as prime minister and also helped end the civil war in Bosnia where Muslim were being slaughtered on the basis of their religious creeds," they added.
