'Creation of Pakistan a manifestation of God's will'

11 Oct, 2007

Dr Riaz Ahmad, an historian and director of Cultural Research Institute at the Quaid Azam University described the creation of Pakistan as a manifestation of God's will to establish a modern democratic state based on Islamic teachings.
Speaking at a seminar of the university, Dr Riaz saw Pakistan was established to represent unity between Shias and Sunnis and present this as a gift to the Muslims of the world. Because of the lofty precept that inspired the creation of Pakistan every action of the country should be infused with the liberal tradition and not dictated by the orthodoxy, he emphasised.
The democratic credentials of Pakistan must show, said the scholar, asking the people to stick to the democratic polity and also act as guardian of that democratic struggle.
Another scholar Dr Hussain Ahmad Piracha said that Pakistanis should be conscious of their responsibilities in a new world surrounded by technological concepts. They have to interpret Islamic thought creatively.
