Challenging appointment of administrators: LHC directs petitioner to submit rejoinder

11 Oct, 2007

The Lahore High Court has directed the petitioner to submit his rejoinder to a reply filed by Special Secretary Agriculture Marketing Department in a petition challenging the appointments of administrators in market committees.
The petitioner, a bar member M D Tahir contended that under Punjab Produce Markets Ordinance 1978 government is bound to hold elections of market committee but in violations of provisions of the ordinance government appointed about hundred administrators in different markets in the provinces.
He, therefore, prayed to the court to declare the action of the respondent government as illegal and direct to hold elections of the committees. The special secretary in his reply contended that the government has authority to appoint administrators in the public interest and for good administration of the market.
