Sindh university to start music certificate courses

The Music Chair University of Sindh would initially start 4-month certificate courses. Such as certificate course for Professional and Certificate Course in General. This was decided in a meeting of the Music Chair held at Institute of Sindhology presided over by Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by learned scholar Dr N A Baloch, Dean Faculty of Arts Dr M Qasim Bughio, Registrar Muhammad Saleh Rajar, Director Institute of Art and Design Dr M A Bhatti, Director Sindhology Shaukat Shoro, Music expert and Assistant Professor of Mass Communication Zulfiqar Ali.
The meeting reviewed the outline of curriculum prepared by Ali and presented in the meeting was approved with suggestion that it will be further developed by considering it as key for promotion of Sindhi Raag. The meeting while approving recommendations of a committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor, in principal agreed to start 4-month certificate course leading Diploma Course in Music.
The meting decided that 4 months certificate course classes will commence at Institute of Sindhology and the certificate course would facilitate by providing basic education in music to professional and people of general category.
The meeting in principal agreed to introduce music subject as optional subject in all disciplines from the academic session of 2009 as other optional subjects are included in the syllabus. It also approved the names of the faculty members for the music chair and subjects one for interested would be placed before Board of Faculty leading academic Council for its approval.
The meeting decided that for the admissions, advertisement would be published in newspapers very soon while classes will run in evening at the music section of the Sindhology.
The meeting also discusses to develop a culture for organising of extra curricular activities at the department level by students. It decided further that in first instance the Faculty of Arts would hold a meeting of its departments to discuss the feasibility of organising of such activities by involving the students.
Addressing the meeting the noted scholar Dr Baloch said that the key functions of the music chair aiming to promote Sindhi Music and instruments for its preservation and research. He said that it is unique in the world that the Sindhi Raag has history of 3 centuries and it stands important in the history of music.
