Housing units for employees: PHA receives over 110,000 applications

The Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) has received over 1,10,000 applicatioons for various categories of flats/housing units, to be constructed for occupational groups and low income groups of federal government employees.
According to official sources, the PHA had invited federal government employees to submit option forms from August 31 to September 30 and later the date was extended to October 10.
The PHA has recently been tasked to undertake housing schemes for the officers of federally constituted occupation groups and for the low scale employees of the federal government. These housing units would be constructed for officials/officers in order of preference of three cities out of four provincial capitals and federal capital.
Official sources said that concerned department would start scrutinising application forms after the Eidul Fitr followed by a balloting. The sources further informed the press that a chain of about 37,000 houses would be built in Islamabad for the low-scale federal government employees on ownership basis.
They said that a similar project will start soon in Punjab metropolitan for the federal employees of Grade-1 to Grade-16 on ownership basis while government plans to start housing projects in all four provincial headquarters to meet the shortage of housing units.
In addition, these employees would be able to get loans from the House Building Finance Corporation, they added. The government had announced construction of 250,000 houses for low salaried employees in the federal and provincial capitals in the fiscal budget 2007-08.
