Waziristan operation: Jamaat-e-Islami to observe Friday as 'protest day'

11 Oct, 2007

Jamaat-e-Islami has announced to observe Friday as 'Protest Day' against the army operation in North Waziristan. Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed told reporters here on Wednesday that operation in North Waziristan is being carried out just to please the US.
He claimed that a large number of innocent people were injured in the operation and they were being shifted to Bannu for treatment. Apart from this, people are migrating from the area due to heavy firing, he added.
Jamaat Chief appealed to stop operation in Waziristan immediately and resolve the matters through 'reconciliation'. He was of the view that prestige of national institutions has also been affected due to operation, which has caused deep fear among the residents of the area. To a question, Qazi said that Jamaat-e-Islami would not become part of the interim set up being formed in NWFP.
