Punjab dairy department providing milk cooling tanks to farmers

Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department is providing milk cooling tanks to dairy farmers, farmers associations and those attached with dairy sector on 25 percent discount on payment of cash.
This is being done under the Chief Minister Punjab's programme for dairy sector development, said Secretary Livestock Baber Yaqub Fateh Muhammad while presiding over a departmental meeting here on Wednesday.
These milk cooling tanks are used for chilling and preserving the milk. He said the department is providing this facility keeping in view non-availability of proper transportation system for transportation of milk from villages to cities and insufficient payment to milk producers.
Under this programme, one unit consisting three to five villages will be provided milk cooling unit with capacity of 1000 litres of milk on first-come-first-serve basis.
The department has arranged two types of milk cooling tanks one is called 'ice bank milk cooling tank' which need not generator and the other one is direct expansion cooling tank which needs generator. A spokesman of the livestock department said that interested dairy farmers can contact livestock department in this regard. He hoped this step of the government would ensure proper payment to dairy farmers.
