Partly Facetious: the amusing part of the farm land

12 Oct, 2007

"I was amazed."
"At what! I mean at this point in time nothing should amaze you."
"I am referring to the farms sold at throw away prices around the environs of Islamabad to the already rich and the mighty - and who aren't being used as farms surprise, surprise!"
"Ah yes, the Chief Justice has taken suo moto action on these farms - one question did the President get the farm as a member of the armed forces or as the President?"
"Don't know."
"I will have to argue that he got it as the President. I think he has a couple of plots as a member of the armed forces as well."
"Right, there is a policy that prime land has to be given to these army officials...so this is yet another benefit of holding a dual office."
"Well, that makes sense, about the army being given plots...so they are not poor when they retire and have to sell state secrets to the enemy."
"That's logical I think."
"Indeed in an odd sort of way, no other country has this policy you know, so now what?"
"But why would they give this farm land to the Chosen One?"
"You have answered your own question, because he was the Chosen One."
"Already using past tense on him, aren't you?"
"Well yes, with good reason. BB is coming back and has requested one woman seat be immediately given to her."
"I wonder what public support she has left after the infamous deal?"
"Time will tell."
"Not the polls?"
"Maybe not and maybe the machinery will be rigged against her and she won't win the 100 odd seats she did last time."
"So the deal is automatically irrelevant."
"Indeed, good strategy don't you think?"
"Oh by the way, going back to the plots why didn't the Opposition make a hue and cry about the farm land?"
"Naheed Khan got a plot there too..."
"Ah, give some to the opposition as well and they will keep their mouths shut."
"Another good strategy!"
