Export of leather garments dipped by 12 percent during the first two months (July-August) of the 2007 fiscal year due to high cost of production and unfavourable government policies, said exporters on Friday.
According to official statistics, the country has exported leather garments worth 68.482 million during August 2007 as compared to 77.471 million dollars during the corresponding period of the 2006 fiscal year, showing a decline of 8.989 million dollars or 12 percent. Similarly, during August, the export of the leather garments went down by 4.018 million dollars or 11 percent.
The country''s export remained 33.017 million dollars as compared to 37.035 million dollars during the corresponding period of the 2006 fiscal year. On month on basis, export of the leather garments witnessed a decrease of 2.448 million dollars or seven percent during August as compared to 35.465 million dollars during July 2007.
