13 Oct, 2007

Eid-ul-Fitr just round the corner has finally magnified the spirits of Karachiites who during the past one month appeared to be mainly engrossed with their religious obligations. Now they are equally keen to celebrate the festival, a restitution for their abstinence during the holy month of Ramazan, with absolute zeal.
People of all gender and age group, pertaining to different socio-economic segments, are witnessed thronging commercial centers and shopping malls till mid night. Shopkeepers, mainly those catering to consumer goods, specifically boutiques, jewellery shops, footwear and artificial accessories, are coming up with fresh and trendy stocks.
People have not restricted themselves to regular outlets and are equally keen to shop from make shift stalls erected at almost every nook and corner of the city.
Glass bangles, artificial jewellery, henna and even stitched clothes for women and children are available here in all hues and colours as well as in varied quality at affordable cost.
To add colour to the growing excitement among people many of the shop owners have arranged application of henna for their customers on complimentary basis. This has definitely added to the delirium among young girls.
The petite young ladies keen to avail the complimentary henna application are but ready to pay any cost for the bangles they may have found upto their standard and taste.
Like previous years this year too the shops appear to be full of imported items, mainly smuggled goods, of Chines, Indian and Korean make but comparatively quite cost effective.
There is also no dearth of imported shoes and dresses, which though expensive are but in great demand by people. Jewellers dealing with gold came forward with special concessions so as to draw ladies preparing for Eid. Ladies appeared to avail the chance and purchase gold items with no making charges and no additional cost for stone studded jewellery.
