13 Oct, 2007

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday ordered City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to immediately close Eid festival and vacate Annu Bhai Park in Nazimabad area for preparation to hold Eid prayers.
SHC's division bench comprising justice Musheer Alam and justice Arshad Siraj was hearing petition filed by Jamat Al-Sunnaa Pakistan praying to direct Liaquatabad municipal administration to end festival till 28th Ramazan.
Petitioner's counsel Abid Rajput submitted his client organised Eid prayers each year at said park. CDGK issued license to various commercial organisations for holding Eid festivals, which caused great inconvenience to residents of area and those offering Eid prayers in park.
He prayed to direct CDGK that permission for such festivals should only be granted till 28th Ramazan to facilitate preparing park for Eid prayers. TMO Liaquatabad Town Khalid Riaz assured that Annu Bhai Park would be vacated for preparation of Eid prayers. SHC's division bench after TMO's assurance disposed of petition directing CDGK not to allow any shopping festival in future in such grounds after 28th Ramazan.
