Tyres and tubes import up nine percent

Import of rubber tyres and tubes of cycles, motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, trucks etc, has recorded nine percent growth during the first two months (July-August) of the 2007 fiscal year.
According to official statistics, the import of rubber tyres and tubes stood at 27.441 million dollars during the first two months of the current fiscal year, as against 25.234 million dollars during the corresponding period of the 2006 fiscal year. This shows an increase of 2.207 million dollars or nine percent.
Similarly, the import of these items rose by 0.321 million or 2.37 percent during August 2007 as compared to July 2007. It remained at 13. 881 million dollars during August 2007 as compared to 13.560 dollars during July 2007.
However, their import came down by 0.427 million dollars or three percent during August 2007 as compared to 14.308 million dollars during the same period of the last fiscal year.
It may be mentioned here that, in terms of volume, the import of tyres and rubber tubes slumped by 368.836 tones or 47 percent during August 2007 as compared to August 2006. Their import was at 420.101 tones during August 2007 as compared to 788.937 tones during August 2006.
