Tobacco exports up 569.15 percent

The country's tobacco exports have increased to $2.516 million during the first two months of fiscal year 2007-08 against $0.376 million of the last corresponding period, marking an increase of $2.14 million or 569.15 percent.
According to official statistics during July-August 2007-08, the country exported 2,114 metric tonnes of tobacco as compared to 396 MT of the last corresponding period, recording a robust growth of 1718 MT or 433.84 percent.
On monthly basis, tobacco exports in August 2007, however, witnessed a downward trend by declining to 183 MT worth $0.215 million as compared to 1931 MT worth $2.301 million of July 2007, showed the official figures. The tobacco exports marked a decrease of $2.086 million or 90.52 percent on month on month basis.
During August 2007, Pakistani exporters dispatched 183 MT worth $0.215 million as compared to 254 MT worth $0.203 million the country had exported during August 2006 depicting a slump of $12000 or 71 MT, official statistics showed.
