19 Oct, 2007

People in Karachi watched TV coverage of the arrival of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Karachi with great interest on Thursday as she returned after eight years of self-exile, spent mostly in Dubai, reports UPP correspondent.
People watching the TV channels also noted with interest the facilities provided to the PPP workers by the security agencies and the special arrangements made by the law enforcement agencies on her arrival. TV viewers compared the arrival of Mian Nawaz Sharif on September 10. 2007 in Islamabad with Benazir's return.
It was noted by the TV viewers that in contrast the authorities in Karachi facilitated PPP activists to welcome Benazir Bhutto. The huge crowds that had assembled on both sides of Sharah-e- Faisal were also not disturbed by the security personnel and instead were fully facilitated.
The TV viewers also had noticed the return of Mian Nawaz Sharif and lathi-charge and beating by the police in Islamabad whereas on the other hand security personnel in Karachi today the police and the Rangers did not obstruct the crowd assembled at Karachi airport.
Political observers were of the opinion that the Muttahidda Qaumi Movement had shown the utmost sagacity and restraint today in respect of the rally taken out to welcome Benazir Bhutto and thus showed that they believed in democracy. Muttahidda Qaumi Movement also showed that the Muttahidda leadership was keen to undo the propaganda regarding May 12, 2007 against the Muttahidda.
