Raw sugar futures punched higher in early business Friday on investment fund buying as another surge in crude oil prices inspired the market's advance, brokers said. "Oil got to $90 (a barrel) and this encouraged the funds to push it. ICE Futures electronic March sugar was 0.11 cent higher at 10.20 cents per lb at 9:23 am EDT (1323 GMT), trading from 10.08 to 10.24 cents.
The open-outcry March sugar contract increased 0.12 cent to 10.21 cents at 9:24 am, trading between 10.17 and 10.24 cents. Open-outcry volume so far hit 2,884 lots. Open-outcry volume on Thursday was 6,198 lots and screen volume amounted to 46,392 lots.
