24 Oct, 2007

Owners of small industries and businesses have suffered production and financial losses due to frequent power failure in the city on Tuesday. A number of small industries like plastic moulding, lathe machine, photo state shops and others remained stationary due to frequent power failure.
Zahid Hasan, owner of a small plastic moulding units, said on Monday that he managed to restart production after almost closure for a week, including Eid holidays and disturbances in the city, but on Tuesday, production activities remained paralysed due to frequent power failure.
He said that they are self-employed people operating small units and producing different items on contract bases with a commitment to supply goods on time. Frequent power failure disturb production and delivery schedule. He said that they could not afford to install power-generating units to meet delivery target. Our total business depends on KESC power supply, he argued.
He said that besides plastic moulding units all those who depend on KESC power supply suffered losses due to frequent power failure. Likewise, lathe machine and Photo State, photograph development business etc suffered losses as they totally depend on continuous and uninterrupted power supply.
