Narc to hold function on World Food Day today

25 Oct, 2007

National Agriculture Research Council (NARC) on Thursday will organise a function in connection with World Food Day (WFD) to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FOA) of the United Nations. Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan would be the chief gust on the occasion.
WFD is celebrated every year on October 16 with an aim to draw attention towards the plight of the world's hungry and malnourished, asking people world-wide to take action against hunger. More than 150 countries observe this event every year across the world, including Pakistan. About 450 international, voluntary organisations sponsor the day. Every year the day highlights a particular theme, covering all activates related to it.
TeleFood Campaign is launched on the day all over the world, in which television channels, radio stations, concerts, celebrity appeals, sporting and other events pass on the message that it is time to do something to solve the hunger problem.
The World Food Day and TeleFood theme for 2007 is "The Right to Food". The right to food is the inherent human right of every woman, man, girl and boy, wherever they live on this planet.
NARC by organising the function will show that Pakistan joins international community in its efforts for eradicating hunger and poverty, and hastening and deepening the sustainable development process.
