Tax officials to be at banks to guide traders in e-filing

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to depute experienced officials at State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) branches to guide the business community in e-filing of taxes.
Through another directive to the collectors of sales tax, the board has also deputed senior auditors, inspectors at National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branches to ensure that the taxpayers are filing sales tax and federal excise returns on new format.
Sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that the board has directed Director General, Regional Tax Office (RTO), Karachi, to ensure the presence of tax officials at SBP branches in Karachi. This would facilitate the taxpayers in making tax payments at banks. These tax officials would guide the taxpayers in depositing challan at banks, mode of obtaining computerised receipts, transmission of data, settlement process, verification of National Tax Numbers (NTNs) or Computerized National Identity Card Numbers (CNICs) to eliminate manual collection.
In National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branches, tax officials have already been deputed to guide the taxpayers on banking automation project. The board had defined role of banks, tax departments and business community for paying tax in automated environment.Sources said the board has also issued instructions to the collectors of sales tax to depute senior auditors, auditors, deputy superintendent and inspectors at the NBP-designated branches for filing sales tax returns on new form.
The collectors would implement instructions at the NBP branches located within the jurisdiction of their respective Large Taxpayer Unit (LTUs), Regional Tax Offices and Collectorates.
