Law and order in Swat: caretaker cabinet decides to avoid use of force

The caretaker Cabinet which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Caretaker Chief Minister Shams-ul-Mulk discussed the issue of law and order in district Swat and decided the issue would be settled through negotiations and use of force would be avoided as per the proposals and suggestions of the peace jirga.
Provincial Caretaker Ministers Mohammad Ali Shah, Azam Khan, Bakht Baidar and Shahzada Gastasip and federal minister Ameer Muqam, Chief Secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor, Secretary Home Badshah Gul Wazir, IGP Sharif Wirk and other high officials attended the meeting.
It was also decided to suggest viable proposals for promulgation of Provincial Sharia Act 2003 to Pata. The cabinet urged the need for taking effective steps to remove the backwardness of the people of Swat in order to restore the confidence of the local administration.
The cabinet also decided to implement Nizam-e-Adl ordinance in Malakand and Swat and for this purpose legal hurdles would be removed in consultation with the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. The committee was directed to make their recommendations and submit its report at the earliest.
