City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the signal-free Corridor-II would be opened for traffic in the first week of January 2007. It would be opened after the completion of five flyovers over the signal-free route, which would be building at the cost of Rs 1, 969.45 million, the city nazim said this during a visit to the project late on Wednesday.
He added that the Corridor project would help resolve almost 80 percent of traffic problems of the city, while work going on many other projects, including Banaras Chowk fly-over.
Criticising the role of previous governments he said that in the past governments used to take years to construct a single bridge while his government had completed the Corridor-I project in few months.
By amending the city government's bylaws, he said, the sole authority of the project was assigned to the consultant firm, which would be held responsible for any mistake or error in the project. Even the city government's engineers were not authorised to interfere in the consultant's work, he added.-PR
