Two illegal cable TV networks closed down

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) in its recent drive closed down two cable TV networks involved in illegal distribution of programmes without having any license in Sagri and Gujar Khan areas of Rawalpindi district, says a press release.
During the action, the gadgets/equipments of these cable operators were impounded and their premises were sealed. According to details, W'L'N cable Network was operating in Sagri whereas, Pothohar Cable Network was working in Gujar Khan without fulfilling the legitimate requirement of license from authority.
Reportedly both illegal cable networks were also involved in relaying objectionable programmes in contravention of Pemra Code for media operators. According to Pemra law, both the cable networks were also given reasonable warnings/ notices to get themselves registered but they paid no heed to repeated warning of the authority.
The authority as a last resort took action against both the violators and seized the equipment involved in unauthorised transmission of programmes. The action has been widely hailed by the general public.
