Pakistan Motors Transport Federation (PMTF) President Haji Naseer Ahmad Butt has warned the Punjab government that transport organisations will go on a two-day strike on November 12 and 13, if the government refuses to drop the traffic rules violation fine schedule.
His warning came at a press conference here at the Lahore Press Conference where he said the Punjab government had increased percentage of fine from Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 300 to Rs 500, Rs 750 and Rs 1000. It was intolerable for public transport drivers because they were already paying all kinds of taxes, he added.
He said traffic fines had never increased in other provinces. He questioned the government the discriminatory attitude adopted by the Punjab government, saying the Punjab government had paid Rs 600 million subsidies to the Lahore Urban Transport after it admitted to the loss which was the solid proof of loss that officially confirmed. Punjab Bus Owner Association Senior Vice-President Nazir Ahmed and Mini Transport Bus Service President Haji Muhammad Khalid were also present.
