District government launches extensive plan for agriculture sector

The Sialkot district government has initiated a comprehensive plan for improving the agriculture sector on modern and scientific grounds which can help attain maximum output of crops in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district, official source told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
Source added that under the programme the special attention was being accorded on effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system, and ensuring the sufficient availability of quality seeds in the district. The green houses would be set up at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils as well.
As many as 67 watercourses of which 50 watercourses in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas would be completed in the district. In order to set up agriculture laboratory Rs 3 million had be set aside while Rs 7 million had been earmarked for the establishment of veterinary centres.
The work on seven livestock schemes, costing Rs 58.70 lakh, is full swing and more funds amounting to Rs 31.67 lakh had been allocated during current fiscal year for the completion of the schemes, source said.
Sources added that special attention would be accorded on the repair and reconstruction of roads costing Rs 15.41 crore and under the programme 47 schemes would be completed while 12 roads would be completed through grants. Extra-ordinary attention had been accorded on the improvement of means of communication in the district because the means of communication is vital for the development work in every sector, source said.
Initial development work on widening and improvement of Sialkot-Head Marala road costing Rs 134 m had been the initiated while the work on construction of a ring road would soon be undertaken for streamlining the traffic system in Sialkot apart from the reconstruction of 122 roads in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils. This development programme would be accomplished at a cost of Rs 1.22 billion, source added.
The construction work on Sialkot-Lahore motorway costing Rs 23 billion would be carried out soon and its completion would help reduce the travelling distance between Sialkot-Lahore source added.
