In all 286 government servants and 32 politicians have been placed at the Exit Control List (ECL) by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) through Ministry of Interior till last year, the official sources said. NAB placed 184 accused persons on ECL through Ministry of Interior during the year 2006 raising the strength to 654.
Out of these 184 accused persons, 46 persons are from Punjab, 38 from Sindh, 16 from NWFP, 9 from Balochistan and 75 from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. In all, 158 persons belonging to Punjab, 161 accused persons of Sindh, 45 from NWFP, 99 form Balochistan are on ECL while 123 persons only from Rawalpindi have been put on this list.
Among the 654 persons put on ECL, 286 persons are government servants, 32 persons are politicians, six ex-armed forces while 330 businessmen and others have been inserted in the ECL, the sources maintained.
About 12 persons are those who can be granted One Time Permission (OTP), on request, through Ministry of Interior, for medical treatment abroad, Hajj or Umra and even for business purposes. OTP is granted usually for one-month period.
The sources said that there have been 75 cases of plea bargain and voluntary return during the last year, as a result of which an amount of Rs 1398.604 million has been arranged for payment by the accused, out of which Rs 930.658 million have already been recovered.
