The Lahore High Court on Wednesday reserved its judgement on the petitions of several steel melting units challenging the levy of sales tax on electricity bills. Petitioners Quality steel and Lucky Steel Foundries argued that they all fall under the category of steel melting and manufacturing from remittable scrap.
They said the basic principle for imposition of sales tax is based on the production of manufactured goods. They pleaded that now a change has been made and as per new procedure the sales tax is levied on the consumption of electricity.
