US Centcom chief due today

01 Nov, 2007

Commander of the United States Central Command (Centcom) Admiral William J Fallon arrives here on Thursday for talks on bilateral matters, TV channels reported. Admiral William J Fallon last visited Pakistan in June this year.
During his stay in Pakistan, the US general is scheduled to meet Pakistan's senior military commanders, according to reports. It is Centcom chief's first visit after President Pervez Musharraf appointed his successor as army chief on October 2.
General Musharraf also appointed new chief of the spy agency ISI. Sources said that the Centcom chief would meet top army officials to discuss with them professional matters, co-operation between the two armies, the situation in Afghanistan and security environment along the Pak-Afghan border.
The visit comes amid reports that Pakistan has complained to the United States that Islamabad campaign against al Qaeda and Taliban has been affected as Washington is not providing the required defence equipment.
