On Monday, 29th of October, I was included in the list of the victims of mobile snatching and robbery that took place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 13-B and 13-D. My name is Abdul Khaliq and I live in Daulat Square B-18.
Everyday the loadshedding in our area is at a fixed time once in the afternoon and once in the evening after Maghreb, the latter has proved to be quite a nuisance due to the low visibility caused by the shortage of light.
This situation is further exploited by criminals to their advantage and several cases of mobile snatchings and robberies have been reported. Unfortunately nobody has been there to report them.
In a matter of only a week five such acts of crime have been reported in the same area. Luckily the government security officials for the general public also known as the Police were safe from these criminals, even though a police outpost was only 4 meters or maybe as less away from the location of where I was robbed along with 2 students who got their books torn only for the mere satisfaction of the robbers or maybe their intimidation techniques.
The robbers, professionally with complete confidence, told us to turn around and face the nearby wall and they threatened to shoot us if we moved. They took all that we had except for what fell on the ground when they told us to empty our pockets so that they didn't waste time to pick it up. There were four robbers, two of them searched us in haste unlike the Police who would take twice the time to search us.
The other two were on motorbikes with engines off so that they did not make much noise. After they had done with looting, one bike started, two robbers were on it, and they told us not to turn until we had stopped hearing its engine noise.
After we thought the engine had stopped one of the students nodded, his nod was followed by a thud sound made by the contact of a metal object with a skull. The student fell on the ground then the other bike started.
Due to the fear that they had instilled in us and paralysed us we could not move until we heard distinct shouting of some people who were telling us to run away. I looked about and did not see any motor vehicle so I gained a little composure and again looked about to see that the two students had already started running, I took that as sign to run the opposite way as well.
After I got home I tried to call the police to report this along with all the other crimes that took place but I was not too surprised to find that even after 10 minutes of continuous calls I made on 5 different police stations, including 15, Aziz Bhatti and Gulshan, no one even picked up the phone.
