The Lahore High Court has fined litigant Shahid Rehmat by Rs 10000 for wasting public time by filing frivolous case. The court said filing of frivolous writ petitions is on the rise. It is consuming precious public time and piling up serious litigation and causing lots of hardships and disquiet to the people.
Rehmat has filed a petition seeking court directions to quash a first information report (FIR) against him at the South Cantt Police Station on charges of selling liquor. But neither he nor his counsel appeared in court on Friday. While a police official appeared and told the court that Rehmat was a record holder and daced six FIRs in the same offence. Three cases also stood registered against his brother Shehzad Rehmat.
