A proposal for setting up a raw material bank is actively under consideration of Punjab government aimed at providing sufficient raw material to various industries including surgical manufacturers on reasonable rates. The proposed bank would be operational in near future, revealed Chairman Task Force on Trade and Industry Punjab Mian Muhammad Riaz.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday he said that most modern industrial estates would be developed though private-public partnership in the province and government had set aside Rs 3 billion for this purpose. The development work on this programme would be carried out soon, said Mian Muhammad Riaz.
In order to track furniture industry on modern lines the establishment of a modern furniture city is on the cards and the proposed furniture city would be developed in Gujrat where all facilities would be made available for the manufacturers engaged with furniture manufacturing under one roof and work on these projects would be undertaken shortly.
Mian Riaz further said that Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) had formulated an action plan to set up tracking small and medium industries on modern and scientific production lines in the province.
He said that special attention had been accorded to resolve problems being faced by the SMEs on top priority basis adding that SMEs are playing an instrumental role not only in strengthening the national economy but also providing employment opportunities to the skilled and semi-skilled industrial force in the Punjab.
