Islamabad I-16 sector: Senate body displeased with development work

04 Nov, 2007

Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, Chair, Senate Functional Sub-Committee on Government Assurances, on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction with CDA, IESCO and Sui Gas and their tardiness in completing developmental work in I-16 sector of the capital city within the stipulated time.
The committee observed that delays in the developmental works result in escalation of the cost. Chair of the committee, Senator Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, made this observation while receiving briefings from CDA, IESCO and Sui Gas.
The three organisations informed the committee of the present status of development. They said construction of major and service roads (East and West) had been completed but contracts for construction of service roads (North and South) and vehicular roads in sector I/16-3 and 4 have been awarded with target date of one year. But the execution of work on the service roads (North and South) had been suspended, for the time being because land could not be acquired. The committee directed these agencies to ensure possession of land, and undertake laying Sui Gas pipelines.
Bhinder also asked the Sub-Committee to get an idea of on the spot progress of development work done by CDA and other allied agencies. As for provision of electricity IESCO promised to start the work as soon as funds were provided by the CDA releases funds, however, half the total funds, should be released within a few days, and the remainder amount within two months. Senators Liaqat Ali Bangulzai and Professor Sajid Mir attended the Sub-Committee meeting.
