04 Nov, 2007

The United Nations General Assembly's Fifth (Budget) Committee on Friday recommended by acclamation Imtiaz Hussain, a senior Pakistani diplomat, to serve on a powerful UN financial watchdog panel for a period of three years.
Imtiaz Hussain, Minister at the Pakistan Mission to the UN, will begin his tenure on the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Question (ACABQ) on January 1, 2008. The ACABQ is an autonomous 16-member body of the General Assembly responsible for close oversight of spending by the United Nations.
It is the fourth time Pakistan has been elected to ACABQ since its establishment in 1946, reflecting international community's confidence in the country's positive role at the UN. Imtiaz Hussain, who joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1986, has previously served in Geneva, Sarajevo, Copenhagen, Seoul and Belgrade.
