National programme for improvement of watercourses and strengthening of laser land levelling services in Faisalabad and Sargodha regions was reviewed in a meeting held presided over by Fayyaz Bashir Secretary Agriculture Punjab at DCO Office.
The targets for year 2007-08 was reviewed district-wise keeping in view the time bound action plan. The Secretary Agriculture highlighted the importance of National Programme for Watercourses Improvement and asked the participants to strive assiduously to achieve all targets within the stipulated period. He stressed the importance of the role played by District Coordination Officers (DCOs) and revenue department for the success of the programme.
The secretary appreciated the efforts of some districts in meeting the targets and showed his displeasure over the others who lagged behind in achieving the targets.
He said incompetent officials would not be tolerated and punished and the competent ones would be fully rewarded. He informed the participants that availability of funds is no more problem and the proper utilisation of funds should be fully ensured.
Emphasising the importance of promotion of Laser Land Levelling Technology among the farmers, Fayyaz Bashir said this technology is internationally recognised and India is also eager to learn from Pakistan experience.
The farmers who fully know the advantages are adopting this technology while others need to be motivated through extension staff for the adoption of this technology, he added.
DCOs, EDOs Revenue and EDOs Agriculture of both regions, Mushtaq Ahmad Gill Director General Water Management and Muhammad Rafique Akhtar Director Agricultural Information Punjab also attended the meeting.
