Kuwaiti oil minister steps down

06 Nov, 2007

Kuwait's Oil Minister Bader Mishari al-Humaidhi, who has been under fire from opposition MPs, has resigned, a senior minister said on Monday. "Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah today informed the council of ministers of the acceptance of Humaidhi's resignation," State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Faisal al-Hajji was quoted as saying by the official KUNA news agency.
Humaidhi was appointed oil minister in a cabinet reshuffle last week, moving from the finance portfolio he had occupied for two years. A number of opposition MPs strongly criticised the move - which aimed to spare the minister from being taken to account in parliament over allegations of financial and administrative irregularities.
